Preparing Your Vehicle and Yourself for the Long Haul
Posted by Hannah Grace as Features, Tips, Transport
When going on a long road trip it always pays to be VERY prepared. Here are some tips on how you can make sure that your vehicle is as prepared for the long haul.
1. Have your car checked by a mechanic at least a week before the trip. You can also check the car on your own but only if you really know what you’re doing. Make sure the tires are not worn out.
2. Fill your trunk not only with vacation stuff but with your emergency tool box. The tool box should include at least a set of jumper cables, a reflective warning device, flashlights, extra batteries, a jug of water (not for drinking! This is in case your car overheats), a car jack, and the necessary tools to change a flat tire. An extra tire won’t fit in your tool box but make sure you bring a spare tire …

Kids Traveling Outside the Box
Posted by Jen as Family, Travelogger
Some of the best family vacations I’ve had are those that involve airplanes and passports. Flying out of the country has always been an adventure for me. As young as elementary school, I saw myself as a jet setter (even when I didn’t even know the meaning of that word then). I reveled in the “new” the “exotic” and the “unfamiliar.”
To this day, I’m forever thankful that my parents allowed me to experience such diverse environments. Being engulfed in a totally different culture has made my mind broader and more open to ideas. It has also made me more respectful of cultural differences.
I remember our trip to Japan. Everything seemed magical there and the people were so disciplined. The streets were cleaner than my bedroom. One thing I can’t forget is when I held on tightly to a small piece of candy wrapper. We were crossing the street then and …

A Day With Someone Else’s Family
Posted by Jen as Family, Features
Summer’s almost over and I have yet to step foot on a beach. No pool for me either. Everyone’s just so preoccupied with their own thing that the idea of taking a vacation seems to be the last thing on their minds. My parents are more focused on running our new restaurant (which is less than five months old). My sister has a steady job and will be pursuing a masters degree soon. My younger siblings are distracted by their swimming lessons.
That just leaves me floating around the house. Writing, playing Suikoden and being the occasional grandmama bait is fine but the Sagittarian in me is aching to go out and just do something!
Fortunately, I had my chance to step out of the house a few days ago when BoyfriendJay’s family “adopted” me for the day. We went to Enchanted Kingdom in Sta. Rose, Laguna. I’ve been with …

Best Cruises For Families
Posted by Camica as Around The World, Cruises, Family
Just recently, I wrote about the advantages of going on a cruise for a family vacation. While there are a lot of cruise lines with different destinations to choose from, not all cruise lines are family-friendly. Some, especially the “luxury” cruises, actually discourage kids in favor of the adult’s convenience. To make it easier to search for the best cruise for you, let me give you five cruise lines that are geared towards family.
Before I start, just a quick run-through of the features that define these cruises as “family cruises”. First all of these cruise lines offer age-specific programs that divide kids into age ranges. This is a plus, especially for parents of teens, who only want to hang-out with kids their own age. Some of these programs are supervised by crew members who usually have education degrees, so parents …

Emergency Numbers
Posted by Hannah Grace as Features, Tips, Warnings
Emergencies are always unforeseen, which is the very reason why they happen. So however much you might plan and however much you might prepare one of these days you might get in an emergency. When this happens the only thing you can do is to make sure that you are as prepared as you can be to handle them. The problem with trying to be prepared though is that emergencies can come in so many forms. It may be a health emergency, an accident, vehicular trouble, crime, and even a natural disaster. You can never really prepare for everything.
The best thing then to do is make sure that you have a list of emergency numbers to call. Before going to your vacation destination go on the internet and find the local emergency numbers. Usually there will be national emergency numbers that are easy to dial like 911 for the US. …

Dream Honeymoon Destinations
Posted by Hannah Grace as Asia, Europe, Features, Getaways, Luxurious, Resorts, Romantic
To celebrate Traveloggers nice new look I have decided to spend this post sharing my dream honeymoon destinations. The places listed below are definitely pricey but worth it if you can afford it! Perfect for first time honeymooners of for those who want to celebrate a special anniversary.
France – Of course France is always part of anyone’s list when it comes to romantic getaways. Paris would be great but France has so much to offer that you really would need to spend an entire month touring different parts of France. The only problem with France would be that you might end up focusing on the tours instead of the romance. Wanting to cover as much as you want of France make sure you don’t end up getting caught in a frenzy as you try to see the Alps at Provence, the vineyards at Bordeuax and Champagne, the rugged beautiful coastlines …

Sunscreen Tips
Posted by Camica as Family, Features, Health, Health & Wellness
You know it’s summer when the smell of sunscreen lotion replaces the scent of perfume. Although sunscreen or sun block should be used the whole year round, sunscreen becomes more of an essential during summer. After all, summer means more trips to the beach and outdoors. With that in mind, I decided to remind all you sun lovers out there about using sunscreen.
First off, what’s the difference between sunscreen and sun block? Well, sunscreen contain chemicals that absorb UV rays. They are also inconspicous on the skin. The chemicals that are most often found in sunscreens include PABA, Benzophenones, Cinnamates & Salicylates. Sunblocks reflect UV rays. Sunblocks are usually opaque white film, but nowadays, some companies create sunblocks that are almost invisible as well. Chemicals most common in sunblocks include Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. There are a lot of products in the market today that are combination sunblock …

Cruise Happy
Posted by Camica as Around The World, Cruises, Family, Travelogger
It happens every time. You’ve saved up for your vacation. Dreamed about it. But you find yourself getting more stressed just planning your vacation. Everybody’s idea of a perfect vacation are different. Your 6-year old wants to spend her whole summer on the water. Your teenage son only seems to detach himself from his computer if it involves a radical sport. Your teenage daughter’s idea of heaven is living at the mall. And dad wants to make sure all of his kids imbibe some culture this-time-I-mean-it! What do you do with the baby? Where do you take grandma & grandpa? Mommy just wants a day-off from all of them, hopefully while getting a full body scrub.
Sounds impossible? While there are some destinations, like Hawaii, that seems to fit the bill, the problem becomes how to schedule …

Ensuring Your House is Safe
Posted by Hannah Grace as Family, Tips
When going on a vacation people plan a lot of things from the itinerary to the accommodations and stuff to bring. The focus is usually on the things needed DURING the vacation AT the vacation site itself. What people usually overlook is planning about the place that will be left behind – the house.
For a worry-free vacation you need to not only ensure that everything during your vacation will go smoothly but that the house you leave will also be safe. Many a vacation has been marred by a worried mom who can’t remember whether some appliance was left on or whether a prize plant will die due to lack of water. Below are some things you should remember to ensure that everything at home is in order while you go on your vacation.
Get a pet/plant sitter – If you have pets or plants that need taking care off get …

Choosing a Car Seat
Posted by Hannah Grace as Family, Tips, Transport
No matter how careful a driver you might be you can never be one hundred percent sure that you won’t get in a car accident. This is especially true when going on long trips since you will probably get tired of driving for miles on end. Add to this a handful of fidgety children in the back seat and you have the perfect recipe for distraction, delayed reactions, and an unfortunate accident.
Every year thousands of children are injured or even killed in car accidents. This is why investing in a car seat is very important. Though a car seat won’t insure a totally safe trip it is an added safety measure which can mean the difference between life and death for your child.
When choosing a car seat make sure you take into account the following:
1. Your child’s age and weight – There are different kinds of car seats that are …
