Have A Healthy Vacation
Posted by Noemi as Family, Health, Health & Wellness, Tips

One of the major concerns of parents when going on family vacations is the health of the family members. This is particularly important if the family has young children. With enough planning and preparation, your family can enjoy a healthy vacation. Here are some tips to help you out.
Prepare a vacation kit
It’s much like a first aid kit but better. I am sure that you have a first aid kit at home – just throw in a few more things in there and you have your vacation kit. So, aside from the regular supplies such as alcohol, band aids, antiseptics, etc., you may want to bring along medication that your children regularly take (if they have any). You should also bring along some diarrhea medicine – you never know if someone might come …

Travel Tips For The Beijing Olympics (Part 4)
Posted by Noemi as Around The World, Asia, Cities, Destinations, Festivals, Tips

Here’s the last installment for this series. I am sure that those of you who are thinking of going to Beijing for the Summer Olympics have your own list of things to do and see as well as tips to make one’s stay more pleasurable. Here are the last items on my list.
Don’t use up all your energy during the day
The chances are that you would not be spending all your time watching Olympic events – that is, unless you have enough funds to buy tickets to all of them OR get passes for several days. In any case, my suggestion is NOT to focus solely on the Olympics. Beijing has so much more to offer. However, do not expend all your energy during the day. Even if you are not a night person, you should experience Beijing’s night …

Travel Tips For The Beijing Olympics (Part 3)
Posted by Noemi as Around The World, Asia, Cities, Destinations, Festivals

Here are more things for your to consider as you plan your own trip to Beijing this summer.
Discover the city on public transportation
If you are on a budget, this may very well be your best option. Renting a car for the duration of your stay may be convenient but costly. Beijing’s public transportation system is quite efficient so it is not really a hassle. More so, it comes dirt cheap! It seems that the bus system around the city is very reliable and buses go everywhere. The price? About 1 yuan to 6 yuan, depending on the distance. They also have a metro which can take you around faster. If you feel adventurous, try renting a bike. Though not really public transport, it is an alternative way of getting around.
Discover your own …

Travel Tips For The Beijing Olympics (Part 2)
Posted by Noemi as Asia, Cities, Festivals

In the last post, we took a look at the alternative ways of getting to Beijing. As you saw, it is not necessary for you to go straight there – you can take detours that may actually save you some money or at the very least, enhance your experience. This time, let us look at the accommodations.
For sure, the accommodations will be quite expensive around the time of the Olympics. This is actually one of my biggest concerns. I might not be able to afford decent accommodations at that time. Based on my research, I have narrowed down my choices to two options – one is to stay in a hutong and the other is to arrange a homestay.
A hutong is traditional community wherein some guest houses are located. The best word to describe a hutong …

Travel Tips For The Beijing Olympics
Posted by Noemi as Around The World, Asia, Cities, Destinations, Transport

Just a few more months and the Olympics will be here! I have been planning to visit China for the Olympics since it was officially announced that it was going to be held in Beijing. I have never been to mainland China and I thought, what better time to do it than when they hold the Olympics, right? Knowing how difficult and expensive it would be to set up a trip at this time, I did tons of research. I’d like to share some of the tips I have come across with you.
It is not necessary to go straight to Beijing.
Of course, it would be the most convenient thing to do – just hop on a plane that goes straight to the city of your destination, right? Then again, there are so many other places that you …

Breakaway In Orlando This Spring Break!

Spring Break is always something that students look forward to. For the older kids, especially those in college, they would probably look to spending time on their own – away from their parents. For those families with younger kids, however, Spring Break could be a perfect chance to have a family vacation to break away from the mundane life that usually prevails from January to March. So if you fall under the second category, what options do you have for a Spring Break vacation this year?
About.com tells us that Orlando is actually the number 1 destination for families for Spring Break. I don’t know where they got the numbers but I am inclined to believe them. You can opt to go to Orlando but be prepared to join many other families. Then again, Spring Break is not …

In the last post, I wrote about some Easter vacation ideas for families in the US. Of course, the US isn’t the only country that celebrates this holiday – our cousins across the ocean do so as well! Here are some great holiday ideas in the UK. Whether you live in Britain or not, it is always worth traveling to that part of the world for a break.
Tour the countryside in a camper van
You do not need to own one in order to do this – there are plenty of camper van rentals all throughout the UK. The best thing about renting a camper van is that you get to explore the land without having to pay extra for the lodging! I think one of the best places to roam around in a …
