Travelers Urged To Stay Away From Indonesia For Now

I have always wanted to visit Indonesia, especially since it is known for some of the best beaches in the world. More so, their food and culture are sure to provide a different experience for the whole family. The fact that it is located just beside The Philippines is another perk. However, I have heard a lot of advice from friends that it might not be a good idea to go there anytime soon. Don’t get me wrong – I have met many people from Indonesia (westerners lots of them) who encourage visits to the archipelago. According to them, it is quite safe as long as you know what you are doing and as long as you stay away from hot spots.

Recently, though, the Indonesian government announced that the three people who were convicted for …

Chasing The Storm

The last time that we had a storm, I was kept up all night by the howling winds and my husband’s screams of delight. He was out there in the balcony watching the winds batter the trees, reveling in the sound of the thunder, and enjoying the rain on his face. If I had let him, he would have walked up and down the street enjoying the storm. I guess he would enjoy the new kind of vacation that seems to have gained a huge following in the recent years.

According to Jacquelyn Lewis, storm chasing vacations are the in thing for adrenaline junkies these days. While majority of the American people tend to run away when hurricane and tornado warnings are sent out, these people actually run toward the direction of the storm. And they …

One More Reason To Travel With Others

In my previous post, I shared two points that I learned from an article on group travel myths, which was recently published by The Age. There is one more point that I would like to address. This is actually my personal reason for not wanting to travel with other people – it is hard to find time to explore on your own.

You know how things go when you are with a group. You have to coordinate your schedule with them. You have to go on tours with them. Sometimes, you even have to eat together. But does it really have to be the case?

I suppose the answer depends on the people you go with and how you set your expectations right from the get go. You see, there are people who like to …

Reasons You Should Travel With Others

Yeah, I know, traveling in groups may not appeal to you. I feel the same way. I actually prefer to travel with my partner – that’s it. Kids and other family members – yeah ok, sometimes. But when I want to feel free and just totally enjoy myself, I’d rather not travel in groups. Other people might have different reasons for not wanting to travel in groups and I am sure they are all valid. However, I recently read an article at The Age titled “Busting the myths of group travel.” Naturally, that got me interested. I learned a lot from that article – let me share some of what I learned with you.

Traveling in groups is actually cheaper.
The myth is that it could be expensive to travel in groups. I …

Dance Up A Storm In Amsterdam

Late in October is a very good time to be in Amsterdam, especially if you love dancing. From the 22nd of October to the 25th of the same month, the Amsterdam Dance Event (or ADE as enthusiasts fondly call it) is going to be held all over the city. ADE is going to be celebrated in 40 of the most popular clubs in Amsterdam, with more than 700 DJs participating. The expected number of people? Only about 72,000!

Backpackers has this write up about the event:

Heading for Amsterdam later this month? If so, and if you’re a party animal, you’re going to want to check out what is the biggest club festival in the world: the Amsterdam Dance Event.

So what makes it the biggest? Well, the four-day event features over 700 DJ’s and acts performing …

For The Mob-Obsessed

Have you watched the Godfather many times over? Do you believe that you can learn everything you need to know about life from that series? Do you have a penchant for all things mob? If you answered yes to at least one of those questions, then you might be interested in the newest museum in Las Vegas.

Dubbed The Las Vegas Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, it will showcase the activities of organized crime in the city. Oskar Garcia of AP reports:

The City Council unveiled the name Tuesday, along with logos resembling court documents with material blacked out. The first redaction obscures the word “mob.”

“I don’t think anybody is able to do tongue-in-cheek the way Las Vegas can do it,” said Mayor Oscar Goodman, a former criminal defense lawyer who represented organized crime figures …

Rocking The Daisies

First off, I’d like to apologize for posting this a little bit late – as I write, the festival is well under way. Still, there is one more day to go and if you have the means to do so, you might want to go and experience Rocking the Daisies. I got wind of the event from Backpackers.com:

Rocking the Daisies is an eco-friendly music and lifestyle festival taking place in Darling, a small town in the be-flowered Cape West Coast area.

Spring time in the Cape is a sight to see… The spectacular displays of the Western Cape’s floral kingdom are quite something to behold.

Not only does this relatively new (but very popular) festival offer some of the very best local talent, as well as an international guest star, Eagle Eye Cherry, it’s also one of the …

Care To Go To The Spa?

So what is so special about going to the spa? You can find a good one in most every corner in any city nowadays, after all. There are even home spa services which can provide you with the relaxation that you need in the comforts of your home at different times of the day. But have you ever heard of going to the spa while you are tens of thousands of feet up in the air?

With the new Airbus 380, this is quite possible – and indeed, it is becoming a reality. If you remember, Airbus, the other big name in the aircraft industry, has been working on the Airbus 380 for many years now. They have, in fact, encountered numerous delays in the release of the first plane, much to the dismay of …
