10 Best Of Everything – Family Travel

51lzexqpu4l_sl500_aa240_Here’s a book that you ought to have if you’re planning on going on a trip with the family any time in the future: The 10 Best of Everything Families: An Ultimate Guide for Travelers. Written by Susan H. Magsamen, this book offers all sorts of information that a family will need to plan a vacation that will NOT break the bank.

The book contains top 10 lists on a wide array of categories. These categories include parks & playgrounds, farms & markets, and the like. The Baltimore Sun recently interviewed the author and she had some interesting things to say.

One of my favorite questions was “With the recession, families are having a hard time affording travel. What are your best tips for doing it on the cheap?”

Her answer?

You can really find things in your backyard that …

My Top 3 Vacation Must Haves

dsc05186Everyone has his own list when it comes to trips. This would of course differ from one person to another. The basics, the essentials, would probably be the same – clothes, toiletries, medicine, etc. However, there are some things which I find necessary to bring with me. Let me share my list with you and perhaps you can share yours?

My mobile phone
By all rights, the number one item on my list should be my netbook. In spite of the fact that I would be on vacation, I still feel the need to check my e-mail and blog every now and then. That is why I got my netbook. When I got my new mobile phone earlier this year, however, the netbook became optional. This is because I can access the Internet through WiFi …

The Beaches Of Bohol

When I wrote my last post, I was getting ready to leave the resort where we stayed in Panglao, Bohol in the Philippines. I have to say, without any equivocation, that where we stayed has one of the best beaches that I have ever visited.

The popular destination in Bohol is the stretch of Alona Beach, where the sand is white and fine. I didn’t choose to stay in that area for two reasons:

1. Too many people
2. Seaweeds.

Of course, I haven’t experienced any of those for myself, but most of the people that I have talked to have the same comments. Since Alona Beach is where you will find most of the hotels and resorts, people would tend to go there. The accommodation there is quite affordable, though, so it is a good place to go.

We stayed at the Dumaluan Beach Resort, which is right …

Discovering Bohol, Philippines

tarsier_2Today is a big day for me – I am about to embark on a day’s worth of new experiences! Yesterday, we flew to Cebu City, which is considered the Queen City of the South of the Philippines. We didn’t really spend much time there – just enough to rush from the airport to the pier, where we got on a ferry boat to the neighboring island of Bohol. We are staying in Cebu in a couple of days, though, so I shall post about that later on.

Going back to Bohol, we took on the services of a seasoned tour guide for today. I have always wanted to go around Bohol because of the things I have been hearing about it. To give you a quick idea, these are some of the things that we plan …

Nuances of a Vacation

vacplanningLast trip wore you out? Well, that’s all part of the game, and with any trip it just happens to be part of the whole experience making it memorable and enjoyable. From the planning stage, you are made to decide on several aspects of a vacation from deciding where to go and when, where to stay and what to do when you get there. With a large family, this quickly turns into a nightmare where decisions become more than challenging. Though we want all voices heard, we have to put out feet down sooner or later to get down and move on with the vacation. Booking flights is another worry for everybody wants the cheapest deals around. Planning where to stay is the next thing to consider and then what to do as you get there. This is the common …

strong>Spring Break is almost here and I am sure that a lot of college kids are getting all geared up for some traveling. We might not be of that age group but the chances are that we all have someone in the family who are. If you have children, other family members, or friends who are thinking of hitting the road during Spring Break, here is a piece of advice for them, courtesy of the United States government.

Travel to Mexico is not advised. The Department of State issued this warning late in February:

This Travel Alert updates security information for U.S. citizens traveling and living in Mexico. It supersedes the Travel Alert for Mexico dated October 15, 2008, and expires on August 20, 2009.

While millions of U.S. citizens safely visit Mexico each year (including …
