US Travel Hotspots Have “Poorly Performing” Hospitals

Most people do not really plan on getting sick or injured while on vacation, but it is comforting to know that there is a hospital nearby with competent staff and adequate facilities to treat you just in case something does happen.

According to a study done by USA Today, however, some of the most popular travel destinations in the United States have “poorly performing” hospitals. And how do they define “poorly performing?” How about having some of the worst death rates in the United States? To quote the report:

Traveling To Cuba


mapPreviously, I wrote about the excitement being felt in the US travel sector due to the possibility of leisurely travel to Cuba. Unfortunately, it seems that a reader took things the wrong way – sorry about that. Jumping on a plane “to look at the poor suffering people in Cuba up close (as if you are visiting a circus)” is definitely NOT what I have in mind.

Cuba: Next Hot Travel Destination?

But I do feel a strange sense of nostalgia. Maybe it’s because of the old movies and the books that I have been exposed to, but in any case, the recent news that President Obama is easing up the restrictions with regard to Cuba made me feel those weird feelings again.

Of course, this news means something else as well – travel to Cuba is in the horizon! Actually, I have been hearing about a lot of developments with regard to the travel sector in the US preparing for the opening of the doors, so to speak. Leisurely travel to Cuba may not be a reality …



Baguio, Philippines: New Adventure Destination


baguioBaguio City in the Philippines is known as the country’s Summer Capital. This city was founded by the Americans during their stay in the country, and is located on a mountain. The weather is pretty cool, making it the perfect destination when one yearns to get away from the heat and humidity of the lowlands.

Now, the city government and the Baguio Convention and Visitors Bureau (BCVB) are working in tandem to promote the city as a new adventure destination. The Philippine Information Agency reports:

“We will be promoting Baguio, not as the usual tourist destination, but as a place where people (tourists) has a lot other things to do, where adventure begins,” De Leon said.
