Make a Pilgrimage
Posted by Noemi as Arts & Culture, Destinations
I was reading an old article the other week about things that one must do before he or she dies. As I was reading through the list, I was struck by one of the items, which was to make a pilgrimage. I have always associated a pilgrimage with something religious. You know, the Mecca, Jerusalem, or whatever other location that has something to do with one’s faith. The author of that article, however, shed a totally different light to the word pilgrimage for me.
He was talking about how making a pilgrimage need not to be something related to your religion or faith. It is all about going on that trip that you have always wanted to go on. What struck me was that there are places that I have always wanted to visit. They are part of that list of dream destinations for me and I know that when I finally get to visit those places, another aspect of satisfaction and self fulfillment would be revealed to me.
As a child, I won this book about traveling to France. Since then, it has always been my dream to visit that country. Another place which I dream of going to is Israel, which is actually more because of its relation to my faith. In any case, I realized that it is something that many of us probably want to do but cannot find the time and money for.
Yet I believe that what that author said was true, you need to make at least one pilgrimage in your life. It will give you a different sense of achievement, something that cannot be matched by any other thing.
