Roll Out The Barrels!

October 3, 2007 By Camica

For my husband, the one word that comes to mind when October comes along is Oktoberfest. It’s his idea of heaven, and if he could go to Munich, Germany for that event, he wouldn’t think twice about it. This 14-day festival is world-renowned, not only for the beer and the activities, but also for the celebrities that participate in the revelry. With the traditional words “O’zapft is!” (translation: the barrel has been tapped), the world’s largest beer festival begins. This year, the festival is expected to attract about six million beer drinkers all over the world. But for those who want to make this pilgrimage to beer, you’ll only have a few days left for it. That’s because the festival actually opens in September; this year it opened September 22 and ends on October 7.

Don’t lose heart, however. October is loaded with beer festivals, and some may even be near your locale. To find out what beer festivals you can visit, check out the calendar here. And for our readers based in the USA., there’s still the Great American Beer Festival to look forward to. That’s said to be America’s largest beer festival, sponsored by the Association of Brewers. This year, it’s slated to be held on October 11-13 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado. Check it out!
