New Destination For Foodies: Tokyo
Posted by Noemi as Announcements, Around The World, Asia, Destinations, Food and Drink
It used to be that when one wanted to go to the premier destination for food, it was Paris that came to mind first. These days, it seems that there is a new culinary capital – at least according to the experts. The attention of Michelin, arguably the foodie’s guide to the best, was placed on Tokyo and they came up with a Michelin guide. What did it contain? Nothing but praise for this foodie’s haven, where even the ones on a budget could satisfy their palates with tons of great food.
MSN reports:
Here’s a Michelin morsel:
“Tokyo is a shining star in the world …

More Of Bangkok On A Shoestring Budget
Posted by Noemi as Asia, Backpacking & Budget, Food and Drink, Tips
We have talked about going around Bangkok and sleeping in the city on a shoestring budget. Now how about going to the best part of all – FOOD.
When we went to Bangkok, trying all the different food available was the best part for me. We arrived at the hotel around 4 am and we were starving. It was a good thing that we saw a long line of food stores right beside the hotel. It seemed that they were open all night and there were a lot of people eating and drinking so we decided to check in and then find something to eat. Most of the people were Thai so of course, we …

Bangkok On A Shoestring Budget
Posted by Noemi as Asia, Backpacking & Budget, Cities, Destinations, Tips

A friend of mine is taking her family to Bangkok at the end of this week. As she has never been there (and I have), we had a long discussion on what they could do there without burning too big a hole in their pockets. Here are some things that we talked about.
Accommodations
Bangkok is rife with hotels and hostels for all kinds of budgets. Since we are looking for cheap but decent accommodations, the best place to stay would be around the Khao San area. This road is arguably the best road in the world. Though some may think that it is not the perfect …

Tourists May Get To See Iraq Soon
Posted by Noemi as Adventure, Asia

It used to be that Iraq was definitely NOT part of people’s travel plans. It is a pity because Iraq, like many countries in the Middle East, has a lot to offer in terms of tourism. It is thus good news that pretty soon, maybe, most people from all over the world may be able to visit Iraq and experience its wonders for themselves.
The Associated Press recently published an article detailing how the government is looking to tourism to give the country’s economy a boost:
Iraq’s government is beginning to promote tourism. It will be a tough sell — and even if officials can grab the attention …

Update on the Singapore F1 Night Race

The date of the race is fast approaching and even if it is still several months away, it seems that anyone planning on going to Singapore that weekend should be prepared to pay a hefty price. I did not buy tickets – for the plane, hotel, and race – last month when I first posted an entry on the night race because I was not sure if my finances could handle it. Now that September is looming nearer, I decided to check out the prices yet again to see if something could be done.
I shouldn’t have been surprised, really. As with any other event, the closer …

Tamaraw Beach, Puerto Galera – Ideal Beach For Families
Posted by Noemi as Around The World, Asia, Destinations, Family, Getaways, Islands, Nature, Resorts, Travelogger
![]()
We just came back from a short summer trip where we discovered a great beach for families. The resort is called Tamaraw Beach Resort and it can be found in the Puerto Galera, off the coast of Batangas in the Philippines. Puerto Galera used to be the destination for many beach lovers until it became overcrowded. That is why we were pleasantly surprised with what awaited us at Tamaraw Beach.
Their accommodations have been designed to suit family needs – the rooms are huge and can fit up to 6 people (at least our room did). They also have family apartments that can fit 10 …

Travel Tips For The Beijing Olympics (Part 4)
Posted by Noemi as Around The World, Asia, Cities, Destinations, Festivals, Tips

Here’s the last installment for this series. I am sure that those of you who are thinking of going to Beijing for the Summer Olympics have your own list of things to do and see as well as tips to make one’s stay more pleasurable. Here are the last items on my list.
Don’t use up all your energy during the day
The chances are that you would not be spending all your time watching Olympic events – that is, unless you have enough funds to buy tickets to all of them OR get passes for several days. In any case, my suggestion is NOT to focus solely on the Olympics. Beijing …

Travel Tips For The Beijing Olympics (Part 3)
Posted by Noemi as Around The World, Asia, Cities, Destinations, Festivals

Here are more things for your to consider as you plan your own trip to Beijing this summer.
Discover the city on public transportation
If you are on a budget, this may very well be your best option. Renting a car for the duration of your stay may be convenient but costly. Beijing’s public transportation system is quite efficient so it is not really a hassle. More so, it comes dirt cheap! It seems that the bus system around the city is very reliable and buses go everywhere. The price? About 1 yuan to 6 yuan, depending on the distance. They also have a metro which …

Travel Tips For The Beijing Olympics (Part 2)
Posted by Noemi as Asia, Cities, Festivals

In the last post, we took a look at the alternative ways of getting to Beijing. As you saw, it is not necessary for you to go straight there – you can take detours that may actually save you some money or at the very least, enhance your experience. This time, let us look at the accommodations.
For sure, the accommodations will be quite expensive around the time of the Olympics. This is actually one of my biggest concerns. I might not be able to afford decent accommodations at that time. Based on my research, I have narrowed down my choices to two options – one is to stay …

Travel Tips For The Beijing Olympics
Posted by Noemi as Around The World, Asia, Cities, Destinations, Transport

Just a few more months and the Olympics will be here! I have been planning to visit China for the Olympics since it was officially announced that it was going to be held in Beijing. I have never been to mainland China and I thought, what better time to do it than when they hold the Olympics, right? Knowing how difficult and expensive it would be to set up a trip at this time, I did tons of research. I’d like to share some of the tips I have come across with you.
It is not necessary to go straight to Beijing.
Of course, it would be the most convenient …
