Swapping Homes
Posted by Hannah Grace as Adventure, Around The World, Family, Website
After reading Camica’s post about Women Welcome Women WorldWide (5W), I remembered this blog I stumbled upon sometime last year - Travel the Home Exchange Way (called Home Exchange Travel before). The blog exposed me to a whole new way of vacationing.
Staying with another family during vacations is nothing new. In fact people have stayed with family and friends, or even friends of friends, since time immemorial. What is not so common is vacationing in the home of an almost stranger - an acquaintance. After all this requires not only hospitality but a huge level of trust. This is why 5W …

Hit The Road For Food
Posted by Noemi as Adventure, Family, Food and Drink

I was reading my colleague’s blog the other day and her latest post gave me a brilliant idea for a short family trip. She was talking about how she and her husband went on a road trip one Saturday to pay a visit to this town a couple of hours outside of their city. For what reason? They have great cuisine!
Now think about your children. Have you ever seen them unexcited about food? I don’t know about you but the children I know are always ready to go out and try new stuff. What more if I tell them they can enjoy a road trip for the day? Now I …

Traveling Da Vinci
Posted by Jen as Adventure, Books, Education, Travelogger
Planning an unforgettable adventure can be pretty difficult, especially when we’re not exactly willing to put our lives on the line or risk injuring ourselves. However, we all want to go home with silent smiles and a sense of incomparable fulfillment as if we had just cracked the greatest mystery in the history of humankind. Well, thanks to the erupting trend of theme tours and travel, having such an experience is possible.
I am a huge Dan Brown fan. Perhaps it’s because he appeals to the conspiracy theorist in me. Along with millions, I enjoyed every chapter of The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons immensely. For those who wish to relive the whole thrill and excitement of the …

Beam Me Up, Scotty!

Soon, this famous Star Trek quote will no longer only be used during sci-fi conventions. In time, we may soon hear this catch phrase used as a common term among budding hoteliers. In outer space, that is.
Galactic Suite, which is predicted to come to completion by 2012, is the first ever hotel in outer space. It may sound a little strange and impossible but we have certainly come a long way, haven’t we? In fact, a fellow writer recently wrote about an unusual hotel that sits under the sea. Ever since the beginning of time, humankind has sought ways to reach for the heavens. Why should building a hotel in outer space be any surprising? Perhaps, the …

Backpackers’ Dos and Don’ts - Accommodations
Posted by Hannah Grace as Adventure, Backpacking & Budget, Tips, Travelogger
Accommodations DOs:
Do book your first night’s accommodation. While it is tempting to be more adventurous by finding a place to sleep when you arrive at your destination you might regret it if: 1) you have a hard time finding a place to stay since most establishments are fully booked, 2) those that are near or that aren’t full yet are expensive (read: hotels and motels), 3) you get there really tired or feeling unwell and checking in takes a really long time. I could go on and on about possible mishaps but the point is to just book your first night so that you’ll have a place waiting for you to relax and start your trip right.
Do stay in hostels. …

Recommended Travel Vaccinations
Posted by Camica as Adventure, Around The World, Health & Wellness, Tips
Last post, I promised that I would list some of the recommended immunizations for travelers. While most of these vaccinations are not required, it’s still best to do you’re research and be prepared. For required vaccinations, it is recommended that the traveler carries the certificate along with his or her passport when traveling to and from countries at risk.
Yellow Fever - This is a serious viral illness spread by the bite of an infected mosquito endemic to parts of tropical Africa and South America. People traveling to and from these areas, as well as certain parts of Asia, are required to have a certificate of vaccination.
Typhoid Fever & Hepatitis A – though not mandatory, …

Travel Vaccination Tips
Posted by Camica as Adventure, Around The World, Health & Wellness, People, Tips
For the adventurous traveler, one thing that is often overlooked in planning the vacation is vaccination. Unfortunately, many of the diseases that the more developed countries have eliminated are still prevalent in other parts of the world. So if you’re traveling to a tropical country or certain regions in Asia, Africa and South America, it’s advisable for you to be vaccinated against these diseases. Like the old adage says, it’s better to be safe than sorry, and nothing can spoil a vacation quite as much as contracting a serious illness.
When deciding which travel vaccines are required, however, it would be best for the traveler to inquire about the countries they intend to visit. One tip: …

“Rail” Love
Posted by Camica as Adventure, Around The World, Backpacking & Budget, Transport
One of my all-time favorite movies is “Before Sunrise”. This movie, starring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, is about two soulmates who meet and fall in love on a train, roam around
Vienna talking about life and love in general, and end up promising to meet each other at the train station after six months. The sequel, “Before Sunset” takes place in
Paris, but also doesn’t end up with “happy ever after” either. Both movies appeal to the hopeless romantic in me, and the film’s use of the romantic appeal of
Vienna and
Paris adds to the movie’s impact. But I have to admit, I like the first one better, mostly because of the premise of two …

Want to experience a really unusual vacation? Check out Jules Undersea Lodge in Key Largo, Florida. I already wrote about this hotel in one of my previous posts (Hotel Wish List), but I wasn’t able to post any pictures or write more details. But I promised myself I would rave more about this unique hotel in another post.

As I promised in my last post, here’s the rest of the top ten hotels on my wish list:

This castle hotel sets a high standard of luxury, blending old world elegance with modern day comforts.
