Stay Safe At The Beach
Posted by Noemi as Destinations, Family, Health & Wellness, Islands, Tips

Though it is far from summer yet, some families are already heading off to beaches in the tropical parts of the world. At any time of the year, there is always somewhere to go if your family gets a hankering for the beach. In less than a week, actually, we are going to hit the beach for several days of R & R. I thought it would be timely to share some safety tips that I have come up with. I sure will be applying these tips during our short vacation.
Slather on that sun block
Tan may be in but it does not mean that you should not protect everyone’s skin. The sun’s harmful rays are even more harmful today, especially with the degradation of the ozone layer. Do not forget to stock …

Spas: Mother And Daughter Bonding
Posted by Noemi as Destinations, Family, Health & Wellness, Resorts, Travelogger

Family trips need not be expensive. Neither should they always be long and far away trips. More so, time spent away from the hustle and bustle of life need not be with the entire family. One good idea would be to spend time alone with a child, to make time for bonding between parent and child.
If you are a mom and you have a daughter – in her teens, especially – you might want to consider going away on a spa weekend. These days, it is quite easy to book a relaxing weekend or even just a day at a spa resort. Even if you live in the city, finding a spa for mom and daughter is an easy thing to do.
Why would you want to spend a weekend at the spa with your daughter? …

Have A Healthy Vacation
Posted by Noemi as Family, Health, Health & Wellness, Tips

One of the major concerns of parents when going on family vacations is the health of the family members. This is particularly important if the family has young children. With enough planning and preparation, your family can enjoy a healthy vacation. Here are some tips to help you out.
Prepare a vacation kit
It’s much like a first aid kit but better. I am sure that you have a first aid kit at home – just throw in a few more things in there and you have your vacation kit. So, aside from the regular supplies such as alcohol, band aids, antiseptics, etc., you may want to bring along medication that your children regularly take (if they have any). You should also bring along some diarrhea medicine – you never know if someone might come …

Spa and Couples Do Mix
Posted by Jen as Getaways, Health & Wellness, Spa, Tips, Travelogger, Trends
Couples who stress together need spas together. Yes, you heard right. A spa isn’t just for women anymore. While guys who are reading this article may snort and mutter that they don’t need no girly treatment, think again. A spa is more than just bath oils and soft hands; it’s a rejuvenation formula, perfect for those wanting to make peace with their bodies. Besides, in this day and age, couples going on spa dates together are not unheard of. In fact, it’s becoming increasingly popular, helping save one stressed couple at a time.
But what exactly should a couple expect for a date at a spa?

Well, not all spas offer the same services. However, they do have one goal in mind: MAKING YOU FEEL LIKE HEAVEN
Spa Avania, for example, is more inclined on the rhythms of your bodies. They go by three simple mantras. Awaken in the …

Using A Car Seat On A Plane, Part 2
Posted by Camica as Air Travel, Family, Health & Wellness, Tips, Transport
I remember watching a documentary in the Discovery Channel once. A young mom who travelled with her baby had the good sense to bring a car seat and to insist on her baby to be strapped in there. They hit bad weather when they were almost at their destination airport, and had she not strapped her baby in a car seat, she’s sure her baby would now be dead. And if you’ve ever had the misfortune of experiencing turbulence while on a plane ride, you’ll probably agree. Can you imagine trying to hold a baby steady while the plane is shaking like heck? Chances are the baby might suffer a neck injury, or worse.
That’s why I believe the baby’s safety is always the primary consideration to bringing a car seat. The baby will be more secure strapped-in a car seat if you happen …

Using A Car Seat On A Plane, Part 1
Posted by Camica as Air Travel, Family, Health & Wellness, Tips, Transport
For most parents, safety rather than cost is the first consideration. Sure, we’d all like to get a good deal, or even a freebie if you can get away with it. But not if it’s going to put our kids in harm’s way. That’s the reason why parents are now so conscientious about putting their children in car seats. Even if it wasn’t mandatory, it would be downright irresponsible for a parent to let their kid travel unrestrained.
So why aren’t more parents putting their kids on car seats for plane travel? If you put your baby on a car seat for a short car ride, then why wouldn’t you use a car seat for a plane ride as well? In fact, studies made by the FAA, the NTSB and the AAP suggest that unrestrained babies are up to 9.6 times as likely to die …

Recommended Travel Vaccinations
Posted by Camica as Adventure, Around The World, Health & Wellness, Tips
Last post, I promised that I would list some of the recommended immunizations for travelers. While most of these vaccinations are not required, it’s still best to do you’re research and be prepared. For required vaccinations, it is recommended that the traveler carries the certificate along with his or her passport when traveling to and from countries at risk.
Yellow Fever – This is a serious viral illness spread by the bite of an infected mosquito endemic to parts of tropical Africa and South America. People traveling to and from these areas, as well as certain parts of Asia, are required to have a certificate of vaccination.
Typhoid Fever & Hepatitis A – though not mandatory, this is recommended if you’re staying in places associated with poor hygiene and sanitation. Typhoid and Hepatitis A are transmitted by infected food and drink, personal contact and by …

Travel Vaccination Tips
Posted by Camica as Adventure, Around The World, Health & Wellness, People, Tips
For the adventurous traveler, one thing that is often overlooked in planning the vacation is vaccination. Unfortunately, many of the diseases that the more developed countries have eliminated are still prevalent in other parts of the world. So if you’re traveling to a tropical country or certain regions in Asia, Africa and South America, it’s advisable for you to be vaccinated against these diseases. Like the old adage says, it’s better to be safe than sorry, and nothing can spoil a vacation quite as much as contracting a serious illness.
When deciding which travel vaccines are required, however, it would be best for the traveler to inquire about the countries they intend to visit. One tip: double-check the information you’ll receive. You may be advised, for example, that vaccination is not required to enter a country. But you’ll probably find out later on that …

Travelling Pregnant: Preparations
Posted by Jetsetter as Family, Getaways, Health & Wellness, Romantic

When I found out that I was pregnant (for the 3rd time!) a couple of months ago, some of the issues that came to mind was having to cancel a trip to Singapore for our anniversary in July (too early in the 1st trimester), and the long-postponed Christmas trip to Europe (at 8 months, forget it). A bore, but the good news now is that I’ve just entered the “honeymoon period” of pregnancy, also known as the 2nd trimester, which means, yes, we have a 2-3 month space to plan a fabulous holiday before life gets even crazier with a third child.
When one is pregnant, the most vital aspect to keep in mind is the safety and health of both Mum and baby. Obviously that vetoes ultra-exotic destinations where jungles and industrial strength mosquito repellent are involved, multiple-modes of transport (including camels, bumpy dirt tracks, …

Baby-proof Your Hotel Room
Posted by Noemi as Family, Health & Wellness, Tips
Traveling with children is not easy, we know that. Yet imagine traveling with children under the age of 5! That would even be harder, wouldn’t it? However, a lot of people have done it (and are doing it) so why can’t you? Here are a few tips to help you handle hotel rooms and your babies.
For starters, you have to make sure that the hotel you are going to has taken steps to consider the needs of and precautions for toddlers. If they haven’t, there isn’t really much that you can do to baby-proof the hotel room. So from the beginning, ask the hotel staff about such matters.
Next, you might want to bring along some essentials (aside from the milk and diapers). Safety aids such as outlet covers, latches, tape, rubber bands, and any other thing you may think of would be handy.
Once …
