Three Charming Lyon Hotels

Following on from my last post, if your heart is now set on seeing Lyon’s famed Fete de Lumiere, you may be needing a place to stay once you get there. Granted, prices may be somewhat steeper considering the influx of tourists during this time, but as France’s third largest city, you should be able to find a bed to suit your taste and budget.

Here are my picks of some of the most charming, according to stars:

Villa Florentine *****
25, Montee Saint-Barthelemy

The Villa Florentine is set in a converted 18th century Renaissance convent perched atop the Old Town overlooking Lyon, two kilometres from its centre. The 28 airy individually decorated guestrooms set over six floors, meld Renaissance and modern Italian design with coordinating furnishings. All guestrooms provide modern comforts such as air conditioning, cable TV, bottled water, safes, minibars and complimentary Internet access. Guests can relax in the opulence of the lounge, by a roaring open fire or in the refinery of the hallways and atrium foyer.

Cour des Loges ****
2, rue du Boeuf

The 62 rooms of Cour des Loges offer guests contemporary comfort and the typical charm of authentic XIVth, XVIth and XVIIth century residences. The Suites and apartments have large bath areas, cable TV, Wifi, and minibars, some accommodations with a fireplace, garden or beamed ceilings, also on 1, 2 or 3 levels. Heated indoor pool, dry sauna. Terraced gardens at rooftop level with gazebo.

Grand Hotel des Terreaux ***
16 rue Lanterne

In the heart of the town, Le Grand Hôtel des Terreaux is one of the oldest hostels in Lyon. It has been fully renovated and is remarkably well situated; it is only a few minutes walk from the Opera, from the Célestins Theater, the Fine Arts Museum, Old Lyon and all the entertainment and cultural life of the city centre. This vernerable former mansion in Terreaux neighbourhood has preserved a rich heritage featuring, among other things, stones from on old local church in the swimming pool and an 18 th century staircase.
