Autumn is the favorite season of a lot of people and even if the colors are not as bright as they used to be (at least according to some), there are still a lot of reasons to go traveling. One of them is the Carolina Balloon Fest 35. This hot air balloon festival is going to be held from the 24th of October to the 26th of October at the Statesville Regional Airport, Aviation Drive, Statesville, North Carolina.
This event has been held for the past 34 years and has always been a success. This year’s events has a lot of treats for visitors and participants. The organizers promise to launch 50 balloons – all of them eye candy with their multitude of colors. There will be lift offs both in the morning and in the late afternoon.
If you are wondering why the lift offs are scheduled at such times, here is the explanation:
Balloons need stable winds to operate effectively and the hours just following sunrise and approximately 2 hours before sunset are the best for finding these winds. Since balloons move with the air, the weather is very important in deciding to whether or not to fly. The pilot chooses a launch site to use the wind currents to fly towards a suitable landing site.
If you have an adventurous spirit, you can take a ride in one of the many balloons for about $200 per hour. If you prefer to stay grounded, you can feast your eyes and stomach on the large quantities of food that will be available.
