Eating Healthy While on Vacation

One of the most common mindsets when it comes to going on vacation is to indulge one’s self without any limits. For adults it could be in relation to food and drink. For children, it is mostly about food and fun.
Now I have nothing against enjoying one’s self but if you think about it, going on a vacation does not really mean that you can just let go of all your inhibitions and eat whatever you want, whenever you want, and as much as you want. Try doing that to the maximum and see if you will not get sick after the trip – or maybe even during the trip.
Here are a couple of tips on how to stay healthy and yet have a lot of fun during a family vacation.
Don’t go “biggie”
I have to admit, fast food cannot be avoidable when on the road. More so, it does not hurt to eat at these joints once in a while. Just to keep that unhealthy fat away, say no to biggie sizes. The portions for regular meals are enough anyway, plus you will surely be eating again quite soon.
Go for variety
Cravings remain unsatisfied if you stick to an all healthy diet. Don’t deprive yourself and your kids – eat some fast food for lunch then stick to a healthy meal for dinner or vice versa. If you have enough variety in your meals, you will find out that you won’t be craving for fast food all the time.

31|Mar|2008One easy way is to take your own protein shakes or bars with you when you travel. I really like the ones that Shaklee makes. They have some designed more for athletes (http://www.shaklee.net/veryhealthylife/product/20665) and some more for weight-loss (http://www.shaklee.net/veryhealthylife/product/WeightManagement). But all of them all the vitamins you need for the day and can really fill you up so you aren’t tempted by the candy bars and such in the airport gift shop!
