Family Travel Headaches – Cure Them! (Part 2)

Packing
This presents problems for some people – especially if the parents are not that great at packing. We have to admit it, not everyone has been gifted with the talent of being able to pack the essentials and not over do it. When you have children, you want to take along everything that you may need but you also need to pack light because it will be hard to lug all those things around with you. A good tip: involve the children in packing. Come up with the lists yourselves and see which can be done away with. Give them their own lists and have them do their own packing, with you only supervising. If anything gets left behind and you find this out later, everyone is responsible for it and there will be no fingerpointing.

Having kids of all ages in one group.
This one is sure to give you migraine attacks like nothing else. Children are generally easy to please but they can be as complicated as anything else. When planning a vacation, involve everyone – all the kids – and brainstorm about ideas. In this way, you can all pinpoint activities that each kid can engage in during the vacation. It will make it easier for you to choose the destination. Bear in mind that a destination which can generally cater to all ages would be the best for the whole family.

Lack of information
This one, you have to take full responsibility for. I like doing everything myself. My rationale is that I can do everything a travel agent can. After all, the Internet is open for everyone and I can find anything I need online. This is true. However, there is so much information out there that sometimes, I’d miss out on critical things. When it comes to family vacations, missing out on important details is not a good idea. Try consulting with a travel agent to augment your own information.
