Going on road trips is always fun, never mind the slight difficulties you may face when cooped up in the car for so long. One thing you always have to have, though, is food – and plenty of it. Kids love to eat, any parent would know that. One thing that would make your road trip more fun and less boring for the children would be to pack up a picnic basket and stop “impulsively” at a public park, an open field, or any place where you can set up your picnic.
Think about it, having a huge stock of food and stopping in scenic places along the way will add to the sense of adventure as well as give the children (and you) something to look forward to. My idea is to get a huge hamper – not the regular size picnic baskets – for a long trip and pack it up with everyone’s favorite food. On the financial side, this will also save you a lot of money.
What can you place in your picnic hamper? I could think of countless things but whatever you decide to bring would really depend on your family’s preferences. Some easy but filling ideas:
-Sandwiches
-Chips
-Cold cuts
-Cereals
-Cheese
-Pre-cooked pasta.
You may want to bring along a separate cooler for your drinks. Milk, juices, water – pack them up nice and tight in a Coleman cooler and you will never lack for refreshments on the road. Of course, do not forget your picnic mat (or mats for that matter) and some disposable utensils as well.
