Not too many people have great stories to tell when it comes to car rentals. With the way gas prices are today, it might not really be a good idea to drive around on your vacation. Still, if you must have a car then you might as well rent one. Here are some tips to help you save when renting a car.

Book as early as you can.
Just like with plane fares and hotel accommodations, the earlier you book, the better chances of getting a good deal. This is especially true if you are planning on traveling during peak season. The nearer your date of travel is, the higher the demand will be, and the prices will probably shoot up.

Try booking for more than a day.
Car rental companies normally give better rates for extended rental periods. If you are planning on staying for several days, book a car for your entire stay and you will probably be able to get a better daily rate than if you book one day at a time.

Let your fingers do the work.
There are a lot of car rental companies that have web sites. All you need to do is get on the Internet and then look for the best rates. Even better, just go to the big travel sites which have partnered up with car rental companies. They normally give discounted rates for those who book through them.

Look for discount codes.
There are a lot of these online. Companies, credit cards, and automobile companies often have promo codes that can entitle consumers to discounts. Try looking for these before you book your rental car.
