Super Saver Trip Tips: Wander, Write and Win
Posted by Hannah Grace as Announcements, Reading Room, Tips, Website
Tip #3 – Wander, Write and Win
Tip number three won’t really save you any money during your trip but it can MAKE you MONEY AFTER you go on your trip. As the title suggests one way you can “reimburse” some of that money you spent on your grand (or not-so-grand) vacation would be to write about your travel experience, submit your story and get paid for it.
The problem with this set up is that most travel magazines and travel blogs already have full time writers and do not accept stories from “ordinary travelers”. Then there are those that do accept feedbacks and comments but do not offer payment, leaving you with a brain full of memories and a pocketful of lint.
Enter the internet. The great thing about the internet is that it is not only a great place to surf for bargain vacation packages (which will be the next topic I’ll be tackling for Super Saver Trip Tips) but its a great place to earn a little extra income. If you want to earn a little cash while regaling people with stories about you travel then one way to do this is to simply join travel writing contests.
If you have no idea where to start you can check out Traveling Stories Magazine’s ongoing writing contest. All you need to do is submit an interesting story and hope that readers will vote for yours. If you win you get a nice $125 as you prize money. If you don’t, you still get a byline, a link to your website, free traffic to your site (of course the impressed or amuse readers will want to check out the authors!), and the chance to have shown off your storytelling skills. It’s a win-win situation. As TSM put it, “Live the dream. Tell the tale.” and WIN THE POT!
[Oh and please do come back and tell me which one you voted for. I'll reveal which one I voted for at the end of the contest!]
