Georgia is a warm and beautiful state. Located right by Florida, it is temperate and sunny, also known as “The Peach State” for its wonderful produce. Georgia also has a lot of historical significance to the United States – it is one of the original thirteen states in the union.
Georgia was established in 1732 and is full of interesting tourist attractions. Whether you want to go hiking or see a slice of our past in the Savannah Historic District, Georgia has something for everyone!
Natural Beauty
Georgia is full of natural beauty. One of its most popular tourist attractions is Stone Mountain. This mountain is over 1600 feet high!
A famous landmark at Stone Mountain, a huge carving of three Civil War generals, fell under debate this year when the Confederate Flag began to be removed from public places. Civil leaders suggested that the carving was a symbol of racial oppression and had no place on public property.
Georgia is also home to 68 national parks. On the east coast, you can visit the beach, the National Seashore, or even the Golden Isles, a series of barrier islands off the Atlantic coast.
Opportunities For Education
Georgia is packed with fascinating museums and educational areas. The Savannah Historical District contains buildings from as far back as the eighteenth century, including such gems as the Telfair Academy of Arts and Sciences – the first public museum in the South!
Another attraction is the Georgia Aquarium, where you can swim with cute beluga whales or peaceful giants like huge manta rays and even the massive whale shark! The whale shark is the largest fish in the world. This is the only aquarium where you can dive with whale sharks.
Food and Fun
Like most of the South, Georgia boasts a unique and fascinating food culture that simply can’t be reproduced anywhere else!
When in Georgia, be sure to try the grits for a distinctive local flavor. Barbecue is a must-try, as is cornbread, catfish, and (of course!) peaches. Take advantage of that good old Southern Hospitality and eat until you can’t eat any more!
To work up an appetite, consider a visit to the Coca Cola Museum located in Atlanta. Coke Headquarters have long been in Atlanta. Take the tour to see various Coke memorabilia, get a look at how the production line works, and try the freshest glass of Coke you’ve ever tasted!
The Beauty Of Atlanta
Atlanta is a stunning state with tons to offer for the dedicated tourist of the United States. If you love history, great food, and amazing scenery, this is one place you simply can’t miss. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself looking up real estate prices – after you’ve had a taste of that southern hospitality, you might not want to leave!
