Top Travel Tricks To Save Money

backpackerIt’s that time of the year again – when my friends at work can’t seem to stop browsing the web sites of airlines for promo fares and looking at places they can go to. It got me thinking about my next vacation (surprisingly, I do not have anything planned for August!) and how I can save money and have a great vacation at the same time. Here is the list that I came up with.

Go for alternative lodging
I think that this is the one that I struggle with the most. I love to stay in nice hotels where I get pampered. Of course, I don’t always get the nice hotels and sometimes, even the expensive ones do not provide the level of service that I yearn for. I have learned through experience, however, that alternative lodging can be just as good! From bed and breakfasts to backpackers’ hostels – these can give you very comfortable accommodations for less than half the price of some hotels!

Eat local
Just because an establishment does not look immaculate and is not located in a trendy part of town, it does not mean that the food is not excellent. Trust me, go where the locals go and you will not regret it; not for the taste and flavor, and definitely not for the price.

Pack light
A lot of airlines give discounts if you do not have check in luggage. For trips wherein you can bring a single carry on bag, do so! We have saved a considerable amount from doing this. If you’re staying for more than a week, then consider having your laundry done at a local shop (not the hotel!).
