A (not-so) short list of things you should remember to pack when going ANYWHERE. Note that this list covers just the basics so feel free to add to this list when making your own but remember to pack
light!
Important Documents – Always bring an ID card (just in case you end up a John Doe…knock on wood) in case anything comes up. When going to another country make sure all travel documents are in order (passports, Visas, medical certifications, insurance papers, etc.).
Essentials – This includes toiletries (just bring one kit for the whole family), an emergency kit (batteries, small flashlight, swiss knife), and a medical kit (all neccessary medications and a small first aid kit).
Clothing – You don’t need to pack one set of clothes for every single day if going on a long trip. Pack clothes that are easy to wash and can serve double duty. Make sure you have a travel outfit, enough undies and socks (don’t bring to many these are the easiest thing to wash and dry), different kinds of foot wear (wear one for sports and walking then bring one that can be used for dressy occassions), normal touring clothes that are light and breezy (unless you’ll be going somewhere where it’s cold), hooded jacket or poncho (just in case it rains EVEN if people claim that it almost never rains there), a bathing suit and one dressy outfit (even if you don’t plan on going somewhere special…you never really know).
“Tourist Pack” – Bring a water bottle, map, some snacks, light sweater, your purse, sunglasses, sunblock and mobile phone. Put these on your carry on bag.
Stuff to Help You Remember – Bring your camera, journal and a pen with you so you can capture images and emotions. If you are an artist you can also bring a sketchbook and create some art as you go along.
