Air Travel – Choosing Good Seats

August 13, 2007 By noemi

When was the last time that you went on a long plane ride with your kids? How did it go? For some, several hours of being in an airplane with children can be quite a harrowing experience. Yet it does not have to be so. You have the usual array of activities and treats that you can lug along with you in order to keep the kids occupied and quiet.

However, I believe that before you even start gathering all those treats for the kids, there is something major that you should take into consideration. I am talking about choosing your seats on the plane. This is no small matter, I am afraid. Good seats give you a good start toward your vacation while bad seats can make the trip a terrible one.

Not all seats are the same. Depending on the age of your children and their temperament as well, you would have to choose the most convenient and strategic seats on the plane for the whole family. So how do you do this? Shouldn’t you just leave it to the travel agent? The answer is a big fat NO. I suggest that you visit SeatGuru, which has online seats for most of the major US airlines.

From there, decide on which seats would suit your needs best. Window seats, roomier seats, seats from where you could see the movie best, seats nearest the wash room, etc. One more thing, when planning your trip, try to take into consideration the fact that you would be better off with flights that are not full. So if it works well for you, stay away from major hubs.

Happy seat hunting!
