We wander for distraction, but we travel for fulfillment.

Baby Love

November 2, 2007 By Camica

My younger daughter just turned one last week. She went from a small, fragile bundle constantly being carried to an active, running toddler who can’t sit still for a moment. Where does the time go? In honor of her birthday, I decided to share her favorite things, of course, related in some way to traveling. (Please humor me a bit even if the traveling just means a trip to the store!)

Of all the places she’s been to, I’d have to say that my baby’s favorite vacation spot so far is the beach. I think all kids love the beach, with the combination of sand they can play with, the water to tickle their footsies and refresh their hot bodies, and the endless expanse of space they can roam in. She’s also beginning to love trips to the zoo, since she’s beginning to be fascinated by the sights, sounds, and even smells!, of the animals so different from her. She loves monkeys in particular, probably because it reminds her of herself, clinging to mommy!

Speaking of clinging, more than a baby stroller, I’ve found her baby sling to be most useful when going anyplace. Even when we bring her stroller, we usually end up carrying her around in the sling, and the stroller being relegated as a bag carrier. The sling was also an essential especially when I was still breastfeeding her. We also use the sling around the house, to leave mommy’s hands free. Mica also loves her car seat; she knows that she’s going on a trip every time she rides in it. Since both my kids love going out, the car seat, the stroller and the baby sling have certainly been utilized!

Now that she’s toddling around, Mica knows that if she wants to be allowed to walk, she has to wear shoes, even at home. Believe it or not, she actually picks up her shoes and brings it to me for her to wear! Her favorite pair are her Crocs, they’re light, skid-free and easy to put on. It allows room for her feet to grow into, and she doesn’t need to wear socks with it, so it’s ideal even as baby slippers. One word of warning though, parents be careful about wearing Crocs in the mall. There have been a lot of reported accidents with Crocs and elevators, so be sure to be extra careful when your kids ride in one with their Crocs.

Going out with kids is definitely twice the trouble, but it’s also doubly rewarding and thrice the fun! It’s even more enjoyable when you have kids like mine, he he! Happy birthday Mica, from all of us!
