Super Saver Trip Tips: Fly High with a Low Budget

November 20, 2007 By jangelo

One of the best things for me about the internet is that it has made it a whole lot easier to purchase cheaper airline tickets. Airfare is one of the things you can save a whole lot on if only you purchase your ticket with enough smarts. For those who still wonder why they never seem to be able to get hold of cheaper airfare here’s a few tips to help you get cheaper tickets on your next flight out.

  • Plan your trip and search for discount tickets as early as possible – It is almost impossible to find great deals the day or week before your flight because most airfare deals require that reservations be made several weeks before the flight. However, if you weren’t able to plan ahead be sure to scour the internet for last minute tickets since airlines, who hate leaving with empty seats, often gives discounts on last minute tickets. Personally, I sign up for online notices of airline discounts so that even without checking on airline fares daily I can be updated about huge price drops.
  • Fly really early during the day or really late at night – Since most people travel during regular hours airlines usually offer cheaper fare for earlier and later flights. You will find that by flying at four in the morning will guarantee a cheaper ticket and easier booking than flying at noon.
  • Take advantage of your senior citizen discount – If you are a senior citizen then make sure to take advantage of this privilege. The same is true for students. In some countries and airlines people with disabilities are also given discounts. Find out if you are eligible for a discount and take advantage of that! Note though that more often than not discounts of this type are not honored if the ticket you are buying is already on promo rate.

Super Saver Trip Tips: Road Trip Gas Tip

November 12, 2007 By jangelo

Road trips are fun but with the soaring gas prices it definitely is more expensive than it used to be. There are plenty of little things you can do to save on gas.

  1. Take your most gas-friendly car – If you have a hybrid car then obviously it would be the perfect choice. By taking a smaller car you will have less space but unless you have a big family and won’t fit in then bring the smaller car unless it isn’t in good condition…which brings us to tip # 2.
  2. Make sure your car is in good condition – By having your engine tuned, filter,s cleaned, oil changed, and tired inflated properly you can improve your gas mileage as much as 19 percent!
  3. Pack lightly – The more stuff a car has to carry the greater it reduces efficiency. Having a fully-loaded trunk and roof rack can reduce your mileage up to 15% (due to weight and air drag). So pack wisely, leave the stuff you know you won’t need and fit everything into the trunk if possible.
  4. Buy gas wisely – The best day of the week to buy gas is Wednesday because oil prices usually go up on the weekends and then takes time to come down a couple of days. It might just be a few cents but if you are going on a long trip think of all the cents you save. Do not buy gas on exit ramps for highways because they usually have the highest prices. Fill up you tank at the station with the lowest gas price before you leave.

Something Big is Coming Soon!

May 3, 2007 By jangelo

We’re making some changes here on Travelogger. Something big is coming soon, and I’m personally quite excited about it.

We’re refocusing our energies into converting most of our blogs to become more community-oriented. Somewhere along the way we got tired of niche blogging, and we thought of throwing the concept of the long tail out the window. Well, we’re not exactly getting rid of the concept of niche blogging, but we discovered that if we spread ourselves too thin, then we run the risk of losing out in terms of interactivity and growth.

So watch this space. In the next few days, we’ll unveil the new Travelogger.
