yachtDo you like watching how the rich and the famous spend their leisure time? I like doing this every now and then, although I know that it’s practically impossible for me to do what they do. Then again, it’s something to dream about!

Forbes just announced a partnership with the Travel Channel to bring what is perhaps the most luxurious travel series on TV these days. Dubbed Forbes Luxe 11, the TV series will air on November 7, 2009, Saturday at 10pm, ET. Each episode will be an hour long, with a total of 10 episodes.

Reuters gives us more details:

The shows will be broadcast in high definition, will feature content provided by Forbes in a list format and will offer a glimpse into the world of the privileged and wealthy. The first show will feature “Mega-Toys.” Later in the series, topics will include: Exclusive Hotels, Extravagant Meals, Extreme Excursions, Luxury Steals, Icy Hot Spots, First-Class Traveler, High Seas Style, and Billionaire-Owned hotels. Forbes editors and writers will appear throughout each special bringing their unique wealth and luxury coverage to the lifestyle category.

Forbes President of Television and Licensing, Miguel Forbes commented on the new series, “Our new partnership with the Travel Channel is a vital part of Forbes` continued expansion into television and luxury coverage.”

This show is set to make things a little more exciting for those of us who may never have the chance to live like the rich and the famous. So check your TV guides!

Budgeting Airfares to the Point of Destination

March 18, 2007 By Zahir

The various rates that people have to deal with include that of needing to allocate the proper amount of budget for them to be able to get to their place of destination. The going rate for such is truly something that is not easy on the pockets thus the need to survey all airlines on the most feasible rate that can be applicable towards getting from one place to another.

Air Travel Agency

In usual cases, travel agencies play an important role in assisting people on their travel concerns. They do all the processing and are responsible for attractive and reasonable packages to ensure that people get the true value for their money. Some areas for considerations are the number of stopovers, especially for people who need to get to other countries on different time zones.

Some flights would take over 12 hours, something that would make people uncomfortable at times. Hence, the need to check on the number and places of stopovers must be considered, since people can spend some time while they are waiting for the next flight to depart. Usually, rates would depend on the stopovers and where they would normally be.

Travellers: Ian Wright

December 11, 2006 By Zahir

“The sort of trips I go on are all about living cheap and getting dirty which is how I like it.”
Ian Wright

Cheap, yes. Dirty, yes. And also the most interesting and funniest of most travel shows in television today I think. Host of Globetrekker and other shows including Ian Wright Live and Ian Wright’s VIP Weekends, Ian Wright is a 40-year old Englishman, who, before the travelling bug hit him, was an accomplished artist and theatre performer, who even sold home-made jams and crafts at London’s Spitalfields market.

Engaging, honest and endearingly a little mad, Ian’s passion for travel and love for the cultures of the world truly come off in his show, making them immensely watchable stuff.

“Every single country you go to just blows your mind! You know with this job you always get five months condensed in three weeks! The final program gives you a splash of colors, a smell of the country, and that’s where its success is I think.”

“I love it! I’m like an adrenaline junky. That’s my nutty side coming out! It always seems more dangerous when you’re sitting there in your comfy room watching it on TV, but you know, most of the things I do, I’m in control of. I’ve done loads of stupid stuff as a kid, so I know my limits.”

“Every country we meet incredible people, from an atomic bomb victim in Japan to the blind masseur in Cambodia. The people I love are the people I meet by accident. Sitting in a back street of Mongolia talking to a man who works in a run-down garage, speaks five languages, and has two degrees makes me feel the size an ant. I’m just the boring glue that sticks it all together.”

Ian’s travel philosophy?
“If you spend too much time thinking about it, then you miss it! Things come. Keep looking, meet different people, and exchange ideas. There is no rule.”

“The first step is in your head. So don’t think about it, buy a flight ticket tomorrow and then worry about it on the plane. This is the hardest step.”

Travellers: The Thirsty Traveller

December 3, 2006 By Zahir

As it is nearing the end of the year, I thought I’d start talking about famous travellers. After all, without them, how would all the armchair traveller (or indeed, cyber travellers) learn about new (or old) destinations worth visiting (or not)?

Up first is The Thirsty Traveller, which documents a man’s travels around the world through his passion for drink. No, its not Floyd, but someone called Kevin Brouch, who obviously likes his drink.

As described by the show‘s producers:

“The Thirsty Traveller dives headlong into the intimate relationship between local people he visits and their favorite alcoholic libations….it is a weekly journey into the heart of the world’s greatest wine, beer, and spirit producing regions. Each episode explores the land, people, production, companies, customs, traditions, food, and stories connected with the alcoholic beverage that a region is known for.”

Before you dismiss this as a mere excuse for a drunk to travel the world on a television network’s tab, give it half a chance and watch the show, which airs on Discovery Travel channel.

If you don’t get that channel, I strongly suggest that you do, especially if you love travel. But failing that, you can check out some of the Thirsty Traveller’s videos online:

Inside The Sake Temple
The Thirsty Traveler hops the bullet train to Kyoto, the cultural heart of Japan, to study up on the making of the quintessential Japanese beverage.

Sacred Beer in Brussels
1,000 years of history fused into every sip. The Thristy Traveler explores the abbey region surrounding Brussels, uncovering the mysteries of Lambic and Trappist brewing.

The Bamburg Onion
Vegetarians beware, it’s the burger to end all burgers: an onion stuffed with pork and ground beef and topped with bacon and gravy. The Thirsty Traveler finds out how it’s done.
