Cruising With The Family

July 30, 2007 By benj

After totally reinventing the concept of theme parks, Disney is set to make a name for itself in another industry that is now slowly becoming a strong draw for children and parents alike. Mickey and the gang are not just being mobbed in parks in Anaheim, Orlando, Tokyo, Paris and Hong Kong! Now kids and the kids at heart could meet and greet the ageless Disney characters while at sea thanks to the nouvelle idea of Disney Cruise Lines.

But this clearly isn’t Disneyland on steroids. The two Disney Cruise Lines ships aptly called ‘Magic’ and ‘Wonder’ aren’t screaming monuments to Disney. Instead, the company decided to go with the art deco interior reminiscent of subtle representations of past Disney characters. Everything is tasteful enough for the adults, but the colors still pop like how a Disney flick’s would.

Though luxury liners have long been a popular choice for honeymooners and seniors, the market for family vacationers has gotten started. Disney has taken it’s family-friendly reputation to heart by making the entire ship devoted to kids. There are theaters inside the ship where people could catch performances that look like they’re straight out of Broadway. The sets used as lavishly produced the actors really do practice for hours just to make sure that the people on board get treated to an excellent show.

When there are kids, there has to be massive play areas! And this ship definitely has more than enough. Children could play dress-up, play with Peter Pan and meet other kids inside the ship as the adults relax in the on board spa and salon. Eating is definitely done in style in the ship. There are three fine-dining restaurants and if you feel like binging, there are also buffet tables and specialty restaurants.

The state rooms are made a bit larger than usual obviously with bigger families in mind. The ship docks at Port Canaveral in Florida. Guests may cruise to Disney’s private island in The Bahamas – Castaway Cay — or to other Caribbean islands. Trips across the Atlantic are also offered.
