Some of the best memories of my childhood were when my family would go to the beach during the summer for a couple of days. We would pile up into a van and our dad would drive southwards for several hours till we got to this isolated beach resort without too many people. We were anything but rich. Actually now, thinking about it, I realize that our parents probably had to squeeze those summer outings into their already tight budget. Yet go we did, every summer almost without fail. Those vacations were not very long, neither were they extravagant. Yet I recall those memories with a longing.
Each year many families go on their own versions of vacations. Yet there are also a large number of families who don’t. There are a variety of reasons for this. Many parents both work and they just can’t seem to find the time to go on a family break. Another big reason is that with the cost of living today, many find it too expensive to go on a vacation with the whole family. Yet despite these reasons, I believe that going on a summer vacation as a family has more benefits than merely taking the easy way out and accepting those reasons.
For one, just like our family way back, a summer vacation need not be a long one. We usually went on a Saturday and came back on a Monday. My parents would take a day off from work or even time the break to coincide with a holiday. As for the cost, vacations need not be too heavy on the pocket. Go to a relatively near place which will not cost much.
Summer breaks are a time for the family to get together. In this time of hectic schedules where families do not even eat meals together regularly, taking the time out to spend with one another is a priceless thing. It is something that all members will look back at with pleasure.
