Stay Safe At The Beach

Though it is far from summer yet, some families are already heading off to beaches in the tropical parts of the world. At any time of the year, there is always somewhere to go if your family gets a hankering for the beach. In less than a week, actually, we are going to hit the beach for several days of R & R. I thought it would be timely to share some safety tips that I have come up with. I sure will be applying these tips during our short vacation.

Slather on that sun block
Tan may be in but it does not mean that you should not protect everyone’s skin. The sun’s harmful rays are even more harmful today, especially with the degradation of the ozone layer. Do not forget to stock up on sun block with a high SPF – I prefer at least 30, myself. Remember to put the sun block on at least 20 minutes before you go out in the sun. I suggest applying the lotion on the kids before you even leave the room so that you don’t have to chase them around the beach if they get too excited. Also, don’t forget to re-apply lotion every now and then.

Ease up on the alcohol
My husband loves to drink when on vacation – if he had his way, he’d drink throughout the day. When kids are on board, however, you have to stay sober when you’re at the beach. That’s common sense, really, but it never hurts to be reminded, does it?
