If given the chance, would you consider travelling by foot at this time and age when everyone is in such a hurry? Walking to reach a destination is almost unthinkable. Everyone thinks of what mode of transportation to use since travelling on foot is really quite a slow path to travel.
For practical purposes, travelling by foot may not be acceptable for travelling from country to country or continent to continent. Except if one is into extreme challenges, then this is not the way to go. Travel by foot is recommended by many as a leisurely way of discovering places while on travel.
Travelers who have the time for slow leisurely travel should consider riding a plane, ship, or bus to a specific area and then do detailed exploring by foot. We are all familiar with tourist travel plans that rarely allow travelers to discover first-hand the offerings of a specific place. Walking provides greater intimacy in finding not easily-spotted places of interest and witnessing the real culture of people.
Many would be tempted to say that walking will limit the areas to be seen. While this may be true in terms of physical scope, this is not necessarily so in the level of knowledge and discovery attained. A walking tour can easily be accomplished by choosing an area where several places of interest are located, reasonably near each other so as to make walking a possibility.
Travelling by foot can be a very exhilarating experience although travelers who wish to indulge in this should consider doing some physical preparation to be up to the task.
