Group travel is basically a trip or series of trips made in the company of other people numbering about 10 or more. A family trip which may be composed of a similar number of people is essentially different from group travel in the sense that there would be other people involved in travel arrangements. Group travels are typically arranged by professional trip organizers such as travel agencies.
There are a number of reasons why travelers should consider being part of group travel. Sometimes, there will be no other choice especially if the trip was specifically organized to be of such nature such as a company team building activity or business conference. Though traveling with other people who may not exactly be termed as familiar enough to be comfortable traveling companions may have some disadvantages, this is no reason to totally avoid the idea.
Group travel is usually less costly. Many travel destinations are able to extend hefty discounts when transacting with a representative of group travelers. This is related to the age-old practice of doing business that provides privileges to those who are more in number. The business aspect of this reasoning is fairly easy to understand.
The more travelers there are, the more opportunities there are for travel-related businesses to earn. It will also be a lot costly to enter tourist facilities in an individual capacity rather than as a group. Group rates are generally lower than individual rates.
Systematic Scheduling of Trips
Travel organizers are expected to have a ready itinerary for group travelers. This means having a detailed schedule of places to visit in a day in a certain place. This arrangement makes it possible for travelers to see more tourist attractions but not necessarily on a more extensive manner since it would all depend on the available time.
Of course, there is nothing to stop travelers who would want to make their own explorations of visited places but being part of a group travel may impose certain limitations. Leaving and arriving in designated places will involve being conscious of not making other people who are part of the group travel wait longer than they should. In a way, this pressure may be good in instilling some travel time discipline.
New Friends and Acquaintances
This is probably one of the main advantages of group travel. Being part of a group requires interacting with other people. Through this interaction, new friends and acquaintances are expected to be found.
