You may only know about Atlanta from tales of traffic woes and busy airport hustles, but there’s a lot more to the city.  Atlanta is one of the nation’s most diverse cities, and summertime brings about a celebration of the cities diversity.

As the birthplace of Martin Luther King, Junior, Atlanta celebrates diversity, but it’s also a hub for history buffs from around the world.  There’s much to learn by visiting Atlanta, Georgia. Here are a few tips for traveling to Atlanta on your next vacation.

Transportation while you’re visiting

Driving or flying into Atlanta would be the best option.  Flying is the most efficient in terms of speed, but some people simply don’t do planes.  Driving is acceptable, just be safe on the roads, as Atlanta is a bustling city.  

While you’re in the city, you probably want to leave your car at the hotel.  Utilize Uber or Lyft if you want a more private travel experience, but Atlanta has a great public transit system.  Take the bus for less, and meet a range of intriguing personalities and experiences.

The best places to stay while you’re traveling

The first rule of finding a great place to stay is not to plan your travel time during the throws of a major event.  Otherwise, there are plenty of affordable hotels within the city limits. Marriott alone has more than 50 different properties in Atlanta.  

Try using apps like Priceline to find some really good deals on accommodations in the ATL.  The University Inn near Emory is also a great steal. The rooms will cost nearly $200/night, but the services are four-star quality.

Experience the cuisine in the city

Atlanta is an excellent spot to discover the local cuisine.  The city offers a diverse menu that few American cities can rival.  One of the most famous restaurants in Atlanta is actually a drive-in.  The Varsity plays on the old-timey experience of a 50’s diner in every way possible, and the burgers are quality to match.

Sports fans can find plenty to explore

Georgians love sports, and there are plenty of sporting events to experience in Atlanta.  You can see a Braves baseball game, a Falcons football game, or you can check out the Hawks on the court.  

That’s not all! The University of Georgia’s football program is in some of the best years of its existence, and the Atlanta Motor Speedway is also nearby the city.  

Cool touristy things to do in Atlanta

Some of the most fun, touristy, things to do in Atlanta include Six Flags over Georgia, The Museum of Contemporary Art, and visiting Piedmont Park to explore a range of social opportunities.
