March 1, 2023 By Carmen Esate

Taking time to travel can be a great way for you to experience new things, see new places, meet new people, try new foods, and come back home refreshed and ready to tackle your life. However, many people find that while the idea of taking a vacation is great, they often find themselves feeling very overwhelmed with the planning of their vacation and the execution of their plans. So to help ensure this doesn’t happen to you when you plan a visit to California, here are three tips for traveling to California for the first time to help reduce your stress and ensure you have a great trip.

Don’t Underestimate Its Size

For many people, they want to try to fit as much into their vacation as they possibly can. And with California having so much variety to offer, it only makes sense that you’d want to see and experience it all while you’re there. But in making your plans to do this, VisitCalifornia.com reminds you to keep in mind just how big the state of California is. To drive from the northern border to the southern border can take about 15 hours when there’s not traffic. Additionally, getting from the coast to an inland location, like some of the National Parks, can take a while as there aren’t super direct routes sometimes. So when planning your trip, make sure you’re aware just how much travel could be involved to get from one destination to the next.

Take Care On The Roads

As was mentioned above, California often has issues with traffic. According to Betsy Malloy, a contributor to TripSavvy.com, most people in California, both residents and visitors, get about the state in their own car. Because of this, the roads can get pretty packed sometimes. So when you’re driving yourself somewhere, make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get there. Also, anticipate that the roads will likely be crowded with other cars zooming all around you. While car accidents can and do happen, they can usually get cleared up pretty quickly so other drivers can get on their way.

Know The Best Spots To Visit

Because California is so large and diverse, there a countless options for ways to spend your time when you’re there. The fun part for you is going to be picking what you want to see and do. According to U.S. News and World Report, the top places and attractions most people don’t want to miss include San Francisco, Yosemite National Park, Santa Monica, Disneyland, Los Angeles, San Diego, Sequoia National Park, and all of the various beaches.

To help you make the most of your first trip to California, consider using the tips mentioned above as you plan and prepare for your travel.
