Fall is on the horizon. When the season begins to change, so do the leaves on the trees. The sudden shift in nature is a gorgeous spectacle worth more than just a few hours in the car.
Planning a road trip around the excellence of Fall is always an enjoyable plan of action. Take the time this Fall to get out and enjoy the changing of the seasons. Here are a few of the best road trip routes in the U.S. for the upcoming season.
Blue Ridge Parkway
When you’re seeking out the best of the best, driving down the Blue Ridge Parkway in the fall will always fill the void. There’s no better time of year to traverse this particular route in the U.S., just be careful to keep your eyes on the road.
You don’t want to risk hurting yourself or someone else for a beautiful landscape view. Injuring someone in a car accident can have some pretty sobering consequences. It’s best to keep your eyes on the road, so you can enjoy what awaits you throughout the Blue Ridge Parkway.
This particular route crosses through two separate National Parks in Virginia and North Carolina. More people come here to see the sights every year than travel to see the Grand Canyon.
Finger Lakes
Travel to New York state to find a place named Finger Lakes, and you’ll get the best of the season change with the wine country element not unlike that of the great state of California. In September, you can catch the area’s annual Harvest Celebration of Food and Wine.
Drive the route from Syracuse to Rochester, and make a few stops along the way to see the sights. Just make sure you bring a designated driver along with you, as there are plenty of opportunities to taste test local wines.
The Berkshires
Head to the New England region of the United States to witness the beauty of Massachusetts in the Fall. The Berkshires are located in the mountains of western Massachusetts, and the route through them is happily dotted with small villages that display the true culture and customs of the area.
Shenandoah National Park
If you travel down Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah National Park, you will find more than seventy stellar stopping spots to take in the views. The best time to travel through the area is from the middle to the end of the month of October, as the leaves are at the peak of their colorful display.
Hocking Hills Scenic Byway
Head to Ohio to peak the leave changes in Hocking State Forest. If you travel State Route 374, you’ll be presented with six of Ohio’s most coveted historical sites. Get out of the car, and explore ancient caves, take a trip down a zip line, or see the sites from the air in a hot air balloon.
