What do you look for in a vacation? Different people would have different answers, I am sure but there are times when you might want to just relax and go to the safest environment you can find. Well, the Discovery Travel Channel did the legwork for you and came up with a list of the “best safe towns” in America. (Yeah, I got inspired by Hannah’s list of the world’s greenest cities.) Here they are, from number 5 to number 1:
Greece, New York
This place is perfect for those who want to escape city life. Located near Rochester, Greece offers waterfronts and hiking trails. You’ll feel as close to nature as you can get in this small suburb. Bird watchers would also love Braddock Bay, where migratory birds pass by on their way to the north.
Thousand Oaks, California
From the East Coast to the West Coast, we go to somewhere between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. Scenic mountain routes, the Pacific Ocean, Botanical Gardens, historical centers – you can enjoy all these in Thousand Oaks without worrying about your family’s safety.
Mission Viejo, California
Moving on to another location in California, you can visit Mission Viejo near the San Diego area. Laguna Beach is a stone throw away while golf enthusiasts can spend all day at the Casta del Sol Golf Course. If you are aching for something more citified, then visit the San Diego Zoo and the Sea World.
Amherst, New York
Let’s cross the country and go back to NY for a bit of history and buffalo wings. Amherst is just outside of Buffalo and offers history buffs tons of goodies. Of course, you have to visit the Anchor Bar where buffalo wings were invented. Then again, locals hail Rooties to have the best wings in town.
Newton, Massachusetts
History, culture, and good food – that’s what this town outside of Boston has to offer. There are just too many things to do and places to see in this place but do not miss out on the Underground Railroad exhibit at the Jackson Homestead.
